David Oshiro of Kawamata Farms in Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii introduced Gary Ibsen and Dagma Lacey to a cherry tomato that he coveted, that for many years appeared all on its own on the farm. "I want to show you this mystery tomato." He gave Gary and Dagma the one tomato remaining on the plant to harvest seeds. After growing these seeds in the TomatoFest seed trials for a couple of years, and being delighted with the flavor, they released the Waimea Wild Cherry to others. Extremely vigorous and sprawling plants that yield an enormous amount of small, 1/2", scarlet-red cherry tomatoes with a bold, very fruity, entertaining taste. This is a winner for flavor. A good choice for a snacking tomato or a salad tomato or introducing into culinary dishes.
