Cooper Scollan, a long time friend of Gary Ibsen, found these tomatoes at a farmers market at the base of 3 volcanoes in Guatemala. The farmer's family had grown Santiago tomatoes for several generations as the only tomato they grew. Cooper shared the seeds with Gary for our tomato trials. We grew them out in several trials and were delighted with  the results. The tomato plants proved to be very large (in one trial found them growing to 20' tall) Santiago was among the first to bear fruit and one of the last of the season to be harvested. Plant produces a prolific amount of 8-10 oz., flattened, and lightly fluted, red beefsteak tomatoes that have a good tart and very pronounced sweet flavors. A very good canning tomato, and wonderful snacking fresh off the vine. This tomato variety seems to do very well in hot climates. A winner! Rare tomato seeds.
